I have no idea what these plants are called. We encountered them on walks around Aoraki (Mount Cook) in New Zealand. This seems an instance of the photograph doing no justice to the reality. In a sunny field, these plants blaze with yellow and orange (and, indeed, prickliness) and are quite unforgettable. I’m not sure whether these qualities are uncapturable or I am just not a good enough photographer or Lightroom-er to get the image right.
Maybe, one day when I’m much improved, I’ll have a go at painting one to see if I can capture the feeling that way.
